I'm back! (With some beginner animated goodies!)

Hey.

I understand it's been a while since my last few posts, but I was gone for a good reason. Recently, I've been studying animation in college, and it's consumed most of my time. Seeing as I have a three week vacation, however, I might as well post two animation assignments I have here for your enjoyment. ;P

This was our final assignment in my animation course: a jump cycle in which we could animate the model in anyway we choose. I understand there's no texture and very poor lighting in this video, but I hope the animation is good enough to see.

This was one other assignment: a walk cycle, featuring a spherical robot with two legs (I call him Derby.:P) walking continuously for 8 seconds.

These animations were done in Autodesk Maya 2013. Even though I still have a lot to learn about animation, I still feel proud of these creations. Shoot me some feedback; even negative ones. =P I'd like to know what you think.

See ya around,
Adam.

Fan Art: For Scott Pilgrim(?) And Spiderman

Hey.

A while back, I wanted to sketch my own Friendly Neighbourhood Spiderman (which would be the guy hanging next to our favourite webhead.) His name is Vincent Chen. He's an 18 year old Chinese bassist from Toronto, part of a band made up of his friends; Tori O' Loughlin, Travis Connors, Tiffany Miyagi, and Marcus Stone. They're called Crash Course to The Top, and though they just play at parties hosted by their school's rampant jocks and punks, they never disappoint at a show.

One night at a show, Vince meets a girl who he thought was beautiful. Her name is Katrina, and while he was playing with his band, Katrina's mystical pet spider (who just so happens to be disguising as a scrunchy in Katrina's hair) bites Vince at the back of his neck, giving him spider powers. After the show, and a visitation to a supernatural world called The Afterlife Nexus, Vince learns that Katrina is to marry one of the five Lords of the AN, as ordered by her mother, Queen Riel. With no say into her own situation, she proposes that if she could find a champion to fight on her behalf, she would not have to marry any of the five non-human lords of the AN, if her champion could defeat the five lords all together. Is Vince capable of facing this challenge? You know, I have no idea. :P

Originally, this fan-made character was supposed to be a fan boy's tribute to Spiderman and Scott Pilgrim in some ways. Vince does have similar powers to Peter Parker, but with some similarities and differences; Vince studies Chemistry at Seneca College, Toronto, and like Parker, he is a genius. He uses his vast knowledge of chemicals to compose different types of webbing, including impact webbing, combustible webbing, etc. However, despite using web shooters for his vast array of different webbing, Vince, unlike Peter, can shoot organic webbing from his wrists, at the cost of feeling arthritis like pain in the wrists if over used. & yes, his spidey costume looks like a shinobi outfit at the torso, but that was my idea anyway. His gloves also have brass knuckles for an added pain factor to his punches.

That's all I got for now.

AxelGrease: The Crystalix Armor & Trey Dechant.

Hey.

It's been yet another long period of time since my last update. But yeah, I bring you another AxleGrease armor: the Crystalix armor. Utilizing a rare, reflective and sharp mineral known as crystalix, the armor is capable of deflecting oncoming energy related projectiles, thanks to the crystalix shield. Its offensive capabilities are just as powerful, with the ability to form a sword and launch crystallized projectiles from its arm gun. Despite its lack of explosives, however, the crystalix can ignite into fire, which is great for napalm, given the right circumstances.

The artwork above him is Trey Dechant, our hero. This Canadian-Filipino 16 year old is a Straight A's talented wallflower, who stumbles upon the AxelGrease weapon after a party one faithful night. His intelligence is matched by his father, but is overlooked and dismissed by many. He is a bassist for his band the Hunks of Metal, and shares a deep connection with his mother, and his childhood friend, Jane. Suicide crowded his mind frequently with the vague attention he receives, but with the AxelGrease weapon bonded to his DNA, Trey made an oath to protect the people from the many threats Earth would soon face, whether they knew it was Trey or not.

That's all for now. Currently working on a Heavy Weapons armor. ;)

Hey.

I've probably asked this before, but I'll say this again. I get bored REALLY easily once my homework is done. If anyone wants, I'm willing to do a vectorized portrait of yourselves. Any specific detail that you want in the portrait can be done as well.... within reasonable limits. Soooo, e-mail me if you want one. I can be reached at adam.olaez@hotmail.com. Thrill me. ;P

WebComic: NovaStream

Hey.

I haven't updated this blog for a long time, what with high school and its drama and everything. But I'm here to say that me, a few good friends of mine named Gianluca (The writer), Michael, and Jamie are currently in production of a webcomic called NovaStream, with me as the artist.

Novastream takes place in 2060, where gaming has gone down the toilet. barely anyone plays video games anymore. that is, until a new MMO called Overworld has been announced and 5 lucky beta testers from each country are chosen in a lottery to make history in the alternate reality game where your weapons are your favourite games. representing Canada (Novastream) is Gianluca, the team leader, Adam, the brains, twins Jamie and Michael, the scouts, and Caitlin, the saboteur. their loadouts are known as G-Links or "Game Links" that connect to their games and raise their stats, with weapons being their most effective, transformations being their most resourcefull and summons being their life savers. everything is going perfect in the first area, until a cyber terrorist group known as Omaga Code create Zero or a "world fusion" that fuses the game world with the real world. calamity breaks out, but hope is not lost and Novastream (along with all the other beta testers) set to make things right. in a world where game over means GAME OVER, any single wrong move could spell death, but our heroes aren't worried about that. they still think they have extra lives
Novastream
playtime is never over

Updates on the comic can be found on this RoosterTeeth group page. If you got a RoosterTeeth account, support us by joining the group.

That's all for now. Wish us luck. :)

Art: Max Volume

Hey.

So, while playing a game of BattleToads (the arcade version, mind you) followed by Banjo Tooie, then listening to Guns N' Roses afterwards, I somehow managed to create this character.

Meet Max Powers, famous rock star, hardcore bar fighter, and son of famous yet loony scientist Dr. Vince Powers. One day, while rocking out with his guitar in his room, Max hears a scream of terror from his girlfriend Jessie, only to discover that she was kidnapped by some goth punk named Jasper “Obscured” Cramer. After beating up some of his lackeys, a witch (who teams up with Jasper) kicks Max’s ass, kidnaps his dad, takes some of his equipment, and escapes through a portal to another world with Jessie and Dr. Powers. NOT cool, man!!!!

After waking up from his coma, Max is willing to rescue his dad and his girlfriend. But how? He can’t make a portal like the witch did. Just then, he picks up a note from his father, telling him to go to the basement. There, he meets a deactivated robot named VOLUME (Versatile Operational Lifeform Used for Masterful Exploration.) Together, the pair activate Dr. Powers’ experimental portal device and travel to the same world Max’s girl and dad are held captive. With the help of a magical (yet totally hot) fairy named Sarah, Can they rescue them? Well duh, dude. It’s time… let’s crank this party to MAX VOLUME!!!!!

Props to you if you have discovered the grammatical pun. ;)

Adam

Art: AxelGrease (The Negative Armor)

Hey.

Lately I've been thinking if Trey should come across something that slowly turns him from a good guy to a bad guy. That is what the Negative Armor does. It is a rumored armour that is said to have been designed to feed off the emotions of its user and slowly turn it into a bitter, cold war machine. It was said to have been the original design of Void’s ancestors, but was erased from their history by a Dhurian warrior. Nevertheless, it is a dark, powerful weapon. Instead of wrist mounted plasma repeaters, the Negative armour’s main weapon is a negatively charged dark matter energy attack that can be conjured out of the air from the hands. Aside from the negative projectile weapons, the user is also able to manipulate its surroundings with a zero gravity field manipulator (a gravity arm cannon.) As an extra feature, the gravity cannon can also influence a living target to serve under its command for a brief period of time.

Far as I know, it's the yang to Trey's ying. :) This is all for today.

Adam.

Art: AxelGrease Mk.II (With synopsis of AXELGREASE)

Hey.

After eight weeks of hard work, I've created another piece of art. AXELGREASE Mark two; an upgraded version of the first one. I'm really proud of this one, considering it took me a long time to make it. :)

Now that I think about it, I don't believe I've explained fully the idea of AXELGREASE, so I'll take the time to explain it now.

16 year old Trey DeChant, son of infamous scientist, Dr. Eric DeChant of a weapons & robotics corp. called SCRAP, is a rich, smart Canadian kid viewed nothing more than a wallflower to his family, his peers, even his band, The Hunks of Metal (Whom he plays bass for), despite his wealth & fortune. With his talents & his very existence ignored, & his mother as the only closest thing to him, suicide appeared to be a solution to him. Until one faithful night…

A meteor shower is scheduled to pass through Toronto, Ontario, where SCRAP unveils an observatory for future generations of astrologists, and at the same time, celebrate Canada day. While Trey wanders idly away from the party to think for himself, a meteor crash lands into a woods outside Trey’s home. As he enters the woods in his backyard & investigates the meteor, the meteor turns out to be nothing more than an unknown alien device that transforms him into a mechanical combat android, codenamed, AXELGREASE. Bonded to his DNA for good, the weapon enhances his mind, his skills and his dexterity to near superhuman levels. With the armour activated, he is near invincible, because of the type of metal used (the material is not found on earth.)Now he is in possession of an omnipotent weapon. However, he discovers that there are some people who want their hands on AXELGREASE…

Now that Trey has become a target of a race of alien syndicates called the Xios, who wage war with another race of people called the Dhurians, he’s got to defend his loved ones & discover the origins of this powerful weapon. But in order to do that, is Trey willing to risk his young life in a fight to defend Earth from a terrible fate?

That's about all I can explain for now. I'd like to hear any criticism or feedback from anyone.

Adam.

Art: BomberMan

Hey.

So I had some spare time to draw this thing. Really proud of it. I was a big BomberMan fan when I was ten, so I went on drawing this. Took me like twenty minutes or so, but it looks pretty bad ass, if you ask me.

Art: AxelGrease

Hey.

I made this again with Adobe Illustrator CS4. I'm really getting the hang of this software. So anyways, this guy looks a lot like Mega man, doesn't he? I'll release more images of Project Axel when I get the chance.

Art: The TimeVision.

Hey.

During May, we were asked to make a commercial of a fictional product. Our idea (by which I mean, me & two other buddies of mine,) was a Virtual Reality game console called the i-play TimeVision. Above is a basic visual of our fake product. I'm getting the hang of Adobe Illustrator. Quite fun to use during my spare time.

On a side note, I personally think that this year's concert was for nothing. Our band practiced hard for a few solid months, & it was all blown off for just one song. God, that pissed me off. Anyways, peace out.

News: Duke Nukem's Comback?

How long has this been delayed?

I know its been a while since Duke Nukem games have been done, but I still love the series for the same, dark humor that the series possesses. C'mon 3D Realms (or whoever's working on this) Don't keep us waiting. ;)

Video game Review: Pikmin 2

The sequel to the one of the most interesting, yet colorful games was released in 2004. Pikmin two has been an interesting sequel, still played by most gamers 5 years from now. But what was it about Shigefumi Hino's "fruit of his labor" that seemed to be one of the best games of '04? Was it the so called adorable colorful plant creatures that made us go nuts? Maybe, maybe not, but I'm talkin' about it anyway.

The game takes place after Captain Olimar (The elf-like astronaut with a big nose who we call our protagonist) has successfully escaped from the mysterious, toxic atmospheric planet which he crashed on in the previous game. After he successfully returns home to the planet Hocotate, his boss (who we just call boss) & a local employee named Louie, greet him & welcome him home. Everything seemed ok with Olimar on his way home; that is, until his boss reveals that the company is in a dire amount of debt after Louie lost his cargo of pik pik carrots to a giant space bunny. Although it sounds retarded that a space bunny spontaneously came out of nowhere in space & eating up a large quantity of carrots, it sounded convenient that Louie was still able to survive the random attack.

In order to pay for the damage, Olimar's boss decided to withdraw a loan & sell corporate assets of the company (The only one being Olimar's ship, the S.S. Dolphin) to pay off the loan. Even so, they were only able to pay a small part of the debt, causing the company to go broke. In a state of shock, Olimar drops the bottle cap (that he decided to bring back home as a souvenir for his kid) in front of Louie. His ship then pulled the bottle cap using a tractor beam for the ship to analyze. It then revealed that the artifact was worth 100 pokos (the currency of the planet Hocotate), which was apparently more than a year's salary. In terms of realism, I found that fact to be bizarre, seeing as 100 pokos sound like being an equivalent of $100, which made me think how poor the planet sounded. Anyways, Olimar's boss orders him & Louie to go back to the planet & find more artifacts that could be exchanged for pokos, which could then be used to pay back the loan that the company owes. & then another adventure begins....

Every Pikmin has its uses, depending on the color. Red pikmin can withstand fire (& are the best fighters of the group), yellow pikmin can be tossed higher & can endure electricity, & Blue ones can go underwater. In addition to that, 2 new species of pikmin can be discovered; purple & white pikmin. White pikmin have beady read eyes that help them to find buried treasures underground, are more swift & are highly poisonous if consumed by an enemy creature (although don't over do it, as it obviously affects the population of the pikmin.) Purple pikmin may appear fat & slow, but they are ten times stronger than the other pikmin when it comes to lifting treasures or subdued creatures. As an extra feature, each pikmin can become stronger depending on their stage in their life cycles (with a leaf being their default state, while a flower being the strongest state.) There are 2 ways to do this: either leave the planted pikmin to grow from leaf to flower, or find globs of nectar off of dead enemies or tall grass (steroids boost much?)

Olimar & Louie aren't that defenseless as they seem. If no pikmin are at their command, they are able to punch as their only defense, although it is quite weak when it comes to fighting larger enemies. They can, however, harvest two kinds of berries (one being spicy, & the other being bitter) that can be used as sprays. The bitter spray can instantly turn them into stone, no matter the size (although for some reason, it is burped out), while the spicy spray energizes the pikmin & doubles their strength, speed, & productivity on the field (& this one looks as if they farted out the spray, which adds the humor to the game.)

Exploring the planet has also changed as well; rather than exploring just the surface of the planet (with only having 4 places of the planet to explore, sadly), underground caves can be explored as well, where more treasure can be found. The treasures also resemble everyday household items (such as dice, a lipstick, a rubber duck, etc.), although it looks as if a hobo collected the items & scattered them across the planet for some sort of international scavenger hunt. The underground areas look even better, as most of them give you that gloomy feeling in the dark, but other caves have that weird feeling that you're stuck in a little girl's room underground. The upper surface of the planet also resembles our very planet earth, as the atmosphere & surroundings of the surface world make you feel as if you're a tiny little ant in a huge backyard (thus explaining the everyday items we know & love used as treasure.) The idea of rushing is also discouraged in the game, as you have all the time you need (compared to the first game only having 30 days to escape)to acquire every treasure on the planet.

The composure of the music is done uniquely, & change at the right moment if an enemy attacks you & your squad of pikmin. Although, most of the game's elements have been derived from it's predecessors; you can only have 100 pikmin on the field, you have to gather up your pikmin before sunset, etc. Though the game feels repetitive gameplay wise, you aren't left unrewarded. You may even view something called a piklopedia of all the creatures you have been encountered, as well as the treasures you have received ( a little mention; pay attention to Louie's notes in the game when viewing the piklopedia. It's as if Louie was hungry during his mission.) But there's also an additional feature to the game, that being vs. mode. It can be unlocked during the game in the story mode. It's a red vs blue balls-to-the-wall fight, as you and another player play as Olimar (who controls the red pikmin) & Louie (Who controls the blue pikmin.) The player that kills the other player (or eliminate the other players' pikmin) wins.

The game feels repetitive at first, but play it long enough, & you'll feel like gardening. Sure it seems childish, but it will "grow" on you. With that said, this is the review of Pikmin 2.

My previous blog showed how much of a fail it was, so this blog will be taken seriously. So w/e.
